Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Dr. King’s “Beyond Vietnam” speech challenged the illusion of an anti-war political system. Decades later, the parties still argue peace while preparing for war—and expect us to play along.

On this Martin Luther King Jr Day, I’ve been reflecting on his legendary 1967 speech, “Beyond Vietnam.”

It is one of the most consequential speeches in American history – many historians (and Coretta Scott King) argue that this unifying message was a precipitating factor in his assassination, exactly one year later.

How does this resonate today?

I’ve wondered for a while which was the Anti-War Party in America.

The answer, as we all know, is neither of them.

They take turns arguing for peace, but the bombs never stop and the streets run red.

Want to see the 2-Party System miraculously unite?

Observe, the next time the military-industrial complex decides it’s time to gear up for War.

We don’t have to participate in their farce.

Stand up, speak out, vote against the system that hasn’t represented us in a long, long time.
